Trackrod Rally 2009
The
SunWise GT Rallying team will head to the last round of
the British Rally Championship and Swift Sport Cup held
in the forests of North Yorkshire this weekend with one
aim, to take the overall R1 title. The championship is
all to play for going into the last round as three crews
can walk away with the title in a winner take all battle
to the finish.
SunWise driver Gordon Nichol and co-driver Emma Morrison
have been the most consistent crew in the field this year,
never being off the podium in all of the previous rallies.
Currently the Scottish Border based team have a 14 point
lead over their nearest rival but with only 5 of your
best 6 events counting towards the overall title GT Rallying
find themselves having to drop 16 points to the other
two crews in the title hunt, this means that they are
now lying in third place 2 points behind the championship
leader Molly Taylor and 1 point behind Luke Pinder.
The PIAA UK, Advanced Signs Galashiels
and Airbrush Perfection backed team have not had it all
their own way this season when the first two events found
some flaws in their new pace note making skills giving
them a few headaches with commitment. After the first
two rallies a string of three tarmac events followed and
the team were back on the pace from the first of these,
the Jim Clark Rally where they scored their first win
of the season and carried on the dominant driving on the
next two, although a win was always just out of reach.
The Trackrod rally will be Cooks Car and Van Hire backed
Gordon`s 30th ever event and he will be hoping to celebrate
this with another win and the championship. Gordon spoke
with us about this season and how twelve months on he
finds himself back in the hunt for the title. “This
season has been so hard both on and off the tracks. This
year has been so much more competitive than last season
in terms of the competition I have been up against and
it’s been amazing to be a part of it. Last year
we got to the Trackrod with the championship in sight
but with the problem with the clutch on the last stage
it went just out of reach, but in hindsight I don’t
think I was ready to win it, if you know what I mean?
This season its right there again and I think after the
problems on last year’s rally it made me stronger
and able to handle the pressure a little better than last
year. It’s going to be an amazing battle and in
some ways I wish I was watching as the spectacle is going
to be unreal and may the best man, or woman win!”
GT Rallying would like to thank its sponsors SunWise
Glasses UK, PIAA lighting, Advanced Signs
Galashiels, Airbrush Perfections and the Ettrick and Lauderdale
