PRESS RELEASE: Saturday 24th September 2011
Round 6 - International Rally Yorkshire - Saturday
24th September 2011
Trackrod Rally Victory For Evans
Welshman
Elfyn Evans took a fantastic victory on round six of the
2011 Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship but it
wasn't enough to lift the crown despite a brave performance
on Rally Yorkshire today.
Along with Aberystwyth co driver Andrew Edwards, Evans
knew nothing short of a victory would keep his title hopes
alive and hope main rival David Bogie had problems, given
that the event comprised the final round of the series
following the recent announcement that the final two rounds
in the Isle of Man had been cancelled.
With conditions perfect in the classic Yorkshire forests,
the TEG Sport Pirelli Shoot Out sponsored Subaru Impreza
N15 pairing set fastest time on the opening stage and
were never headed throughout the day, setting fastest
time on five of the eight stages and not being outside
the top three on the remainder, but despite his best efforts,
the 22 year old from Dolgellau couldn't do anything about
Bogie who brought his Mitsubishi home in a safe third
place to claim the title.
Despite the victory on the final round of the series,
which added to his Bulldog International Rally of North
Wales triumph earlier in the season, the result sees Evans
confirm second place in the 2011 Dulux Trade MSA British
Rally Championship and for the Carnforth based TEG Sport
team, it meant a runner-up placing to add to their two
previous British Rally Championship titles.
Elfyn Evans: "The car has been great and we've really
enjoyed it. We led from start to finish but had a bit
of a hiccup with a spin on SS5 which lost us a little
bit of time but we managed to claw it back. The team has
done a great job once again and it's unfortunate we can't
take the fight to what would have been two great rounds
in the Isle of Man. Congratulations to David, he's a worthy
champion and I can't be too disappointed with second place
in my debut season for the team."
Lynn Newby - TEG Sport Team Director: "It's been
brilliant. We're really proud of Elfyn, we've always wanted
to win the Trackrod and now we've done it. It's just a
shame we didn't have better luck during the year but Elfyn
has been the fastest man today and we've ended up second
in the championship. We're disappointed about the Isle
of Man being cancelled as it's one of our better rallies
but we've gone out on a high. Elfyn drove faultlessly
and has been a dream to work with and it's a fantastic
result given that it's his first year in a four wheel
drive car."

PRESS RELEASE: 20th August 2011
Round 5 - Toddsleap International Rally NI,
Antrim - Fri 19/Sat 20 August 2011
Classic Fightback For Evans To Keep Title Hopes
Alive
Welshman
Elfyn Evans kept his hopes of the 2011 Dulux Trade MSA
British Rally Championship alive with a sensational performance
on round five of the series which comprised the Toddsleap
International Rally of Northern Ireland.
Although he and Aberystwyth co driver Andrew Edwards
had to eventually settle for a fifth place finish on the
Antrim-based event in the TEG Sport Pirelli Shoot Out
sponsored Subaru Impreza N15, it was a case of what might
have been had the 22 year old from Dolgellau not dropped
over two and a half minutes with a puncture on the very
first stage.
It meant an uphill task for the crew but marked the start
of a fantastic comeback drive which would end in Evans
winning an amazing nine of the remaining 13 stages around
the closed Ulster tarmac roads in his attempt to salvage
vital championship points.
Fastest on both Glendun and Torr Heads stages on Friday
evening, Evans had clawed his way up from 32nd place after
SS1 to hold tenth at the overnight halt such was his pace
to claim four stage wins.
Saturday saw Evans back on the pace although he dropped
a little time on the opening two tests but still moved
up to seventh position. However, on the final six stages,
Evans set fastest time on five of them to secure sixth
overall at the finish just over two minutes down on the
winner. However, with winner Garry Jennings not being
a registered BRC contender, it meant a top five placing
for the Welsh crew and their Carnforth-based team.
The result sees Evans maintain second place in the 2011
Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship going into
next month's International Rally Yorkshire.
Elfyn Evans: "I am happy with the result. After
the puncture on SS1 and having to replace a turbo at second
service, we are happy with our pace and fifth place points
was the best we could achieve in the end. To set nine
fastest stage times is very encouraging and all credit
to the team for doing another great job."
Lynn Newby - TEG Sport Team Director: "Elfyn drove
a fantastic rally and had it not been for clipping a rock
and getting the puncture on SS1 it would have been perfect.
To be fastest on nine remaining stages was a wonderful
achievement after losing so much time early on. The crew
and the team have done a brilliant job once again and
we are looking forward to the next round in Yorkshire
whereby hopefully, Elfyn can take another victory to add
to the International Rally of North Wales earlier this
season."

PRESS RELEASE: 28th May 2011
Round 4 - Jim Clark International Rally, Duns
- Friday 27/Saturday 28 May 2011
Podium For Gould With Evans Fourth On Jim Clark
Rally
After
missing out on the podium at the last round of the 2011
Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship, the Carnforth-based
TEG Sport team were back amongst the silverware in round
four of the series which took place with the Jim Clark
International Rally based in the borders town of Duns.
Whereas Pirelli Star Driver Elfyn Evans had to settle
for a fourth place finish once again but still maintained
his championship challenge, it was Bristolian Adam Gould
who secured a third place finish to get his challenge
back on track after the disappointment of retiring on
the last round.
23 year old Gould and co driver Seb Marshall led the
event last night despite a buckled wheel which was caused
by hitting a bank and were unlucky not to return to Duns
as overall leaders after six stages as they were just
0.8 seconds adrift of eventual winner David Bogie overnight,
with the added bonus of two stage victories.
22 year old Evans from Dolgellau, along with Aberystwyth
co driver Andrew Edwards, dropped time in the TEG Sport
Pirelli Shoot Out sponsored Subaru Impreza N15 but made
it back to the overnight halt in sixth place albeit a
minute off the lead.
Today's remaining ten stages saw Gould maintain his second
place for the opening loop before dropping back to third
where he remained for the duration of the event as Evans,
on his first four wheel drive on tarmac, charged up to
fourth place, which he consolidated by setting fastest
time on the very final stage to add valuable points to
his championship hopes.
Evans is now 12 points adrift of series leader David
Bogie going into the next event which is in August with
the Toddsleap International Rally Northern Ireland with
Gould in fourth place and both drivers hoping to make
advances up the table in Ulster.
Adam Gould: "We're quite disappointed, we hoped
for a lot better here and after last night it was looking
like the fight was going to be on for the win today. We
lost a lot of time in the early part of the day today
and couldn't pull it back so we had to settle for third.
It's very, very fast here and everyone was taking a lot
of risks. We tried to push early in the wet and went off
twice. We really needed to win here and now I'm not sure
about the championship and there's quite a lot of damage
to the car."
Elfyn Evans: "We had done nothing before in a four-wheel
drive here so Friday was our test as such. We set fastest
time on the last stage and I think we can look positively
to Northern Ireland. We've learned a lot today about the
car and driving it and hope for a good result in Ireland."
Stuart Newby - TEG Sport Team Principal: "This is
a good result and we scored strong points in the championship.
Adam has had a few moments and the battle scars on the
car tells the story but he drove well and scored a podium
again. Elfyn built up his pace steadily and produced a
sensible drive which culminated in setting fastest time
on the final stage so considering it was his first time
on tarmac in this car, he's done a great job. A special
word about the Pirelli tyres too as despite them being
bounced off banks and gates today, we've not suffered
one single puncture which combined with the high speed
nature of the event, just goes to show what outstanding
performance they have provided."

press release: 30th April 2011
Round 3 - Pirelli International Rally, Carlisle
- Friday 29/Saturday 30 April 2011
Evans Digs In To Claim Valuable Points On Pirelli
Rally
After
two visits to the podium in the opening two rounds of
the 2011 Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship, Welshman
Elfyn Evans had to settle for a fourth place finish when
round three of the series visited Carlisle for the Pirelli
International Rally this weekend.
After a good start which had him in second place overnight
and for the opening few stages today, the 22 year old
from Dolgellau, along with Aberystwyth co driver Andrew
Edwards, then dropped time in the TEG Sport Pirelli Shoot
Out sponsored Subaru Impreza N15 because of a time consuming
puncture on SS6.
Because of the damage caused by the flailing rubber which
in turn damaged the steering and brakes, Evans dropped
further time on the dry and dusty stages meaning he was
happy to reach the finish this evening in fourth position
and in doing so, consolidated his second place in the
title race for the Carnforth-based team.
TEG Sport team-mate Adam Gould and co driver Seb Marshall
didn't fare any better as the 23 year old driver from
Bristol hit one of Kielder's infamous rocks in stage one
whereby the impact broke a rear wheel hub. Although managing
to get his Subaru to the regroup and autograph session
in the middle of Newcastleton last night, there was nothing
to be gained by attempting stage two so he retired leaving
himself down in fifth in the standings.
After three rounds on gravel, the series resorts to asphalt
for the next two rounds, the first of which is the Jim
Clark International Rally based in Duns on 27/28 May whereby
both Evans and Gould will be looking to get their title
aspirations back on course.
Elfyn Evans: "We had quite a few problems today
so I'm really pleased to get to the finish. I can't say
I'm happy with the result but all things considered, these
are important points for us and fourth was the best we
could do today. The puncture came four miles from the
end of SS6 and we dropped a lot of time as a result of
it and the other problems it caused which we had to contend
with also so it's a relief to get here. The team did a
magnificent job to keep us going, so I'm very grateful
for their efforts today. It's been very physical so hopefully
we can challenge for the win on the Jim Clark in a month's
time."
Lynn Newby - TEG Sport Team Principal: "We don't
seem to have much luck on this event and so it has transpired
again. Given Elfyn had more than his fair share of problems
this weekend, fourth is a brilliant result and those points
may prove vital at the end of the season. Adam lost too
much time last night and there was no point in continuing
so he decided to save the car which was very wise. We're
better placed this year than we were this time last year
and still ended up winning the Championship so hopefully,
we can get both TEG Sport cars back onto the podium at
the Jim Clark as that's our aim."
